Annual Ceremony of Remembrance at Hotten/Bure in Belgium

Service led by Royal British Legion Brussels Branch to mark the Anniversary of Peace in Europe in 1945.

By invitation of the Canadian Military Contingent to the 4 Day Marches.   On Thursday 15 July, Branch 005 will provide a Colour Party in support of the Canadian Military Contingent that participates in the Nijmegen March at the Canadian War Cemetery at Groesbeek. Due to security and access to the cemetery Legion Members wishing to take part in this ceremony are requested to submit their name to the executive of Branch 005 well in advance so they can coordinate access.

Branch 003:

Tigelot Memorial at Jalhay

Ceremony of Remembrance in Belgium Annual commemoration in memory of the sacrifice of all Allied Airmen who lost their lives in the High Ardennes in the Second World War.  A church service will be held at Jalhay, followed by wreath laying at the memorial to Halifax MZ 829 lost with all crew on the 2nd November 1944: the event will be followed by the normal convivial lunch

Branch 001, 002, and 004:  Chaloy, France

The Legion will pay respect to the 778 burials in this cemetery. We commemorate as well the 332 post war graves of Canadian Military Personnel and their family members who died in the service of their country while serving with NATO from 1953 to 1994. 276 are Military Members and 56 Family Members.

Members of other Branches are also welcome and encouraged to attend. Members will meet at the Cemetery in Choloy at 1430 hours. The Colours will be paraded to the Cross of Remembrance where the ceremony will take place. Following the ceremony members will have the opportunity to visit graves of friends. This ceremony is considered basically a day trip so following the ceremony we will depart for home.

 Note: This schedule is based on information that is presently available. All dates are subject to change. Branches will be notified of amendments, as additional information becomes available. Future requests received by Zone for additional ceremonies we may be required to attend will also be added to this list as an amendment notification. This schedule will also be published on the Zone Webpage at www.rcl-europe.org and updated as required.

This schedule will be distributed to Branches at the 14 March  Zone Meeting.  Due to the deletion of the Dominion Ceremonial Grant – this may be amended as necessary by the Zone Commander.  Additional information pertaining to the schedule and further requests for ceremonies are to be forwarded to the Zone Commander for consideration.
