Last Post Branch 004, Lahr Airfield

Branch 004 called "Friends of Canada Branch" was formed also in the Lahr area in 2002 and is presently located on the former Canadian Forces Base Lahr at the Airfield next to what used to be 5 AMU now the Black Forest Airport.

RaymondRaymond Lortie *17 July 1927 † 08 April 2012. It is with regret that we announce the death of Sgt (Ret) Raymond Lortie who died at the age of 84. Sgt Lortie joined the Army in February 1951 at the Royal 22nd Regiment Depot. Raymond was a Korean Veteran who was wounded in action in September 1952.

Raymond was posted to Soest in Germany the first time 1953 - 1955 and would return again in 1957 this time to Werl and would take his release from the Army in 1971 and remained in Werl. He continued to be heavly involved with the activities of the Regiment after his retirement.

Raymond was also a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion and continued to participare in the Annual Remembrance Ceremony in the Werl Park Cemetery in Werl where several members of the Regiment and their family members are laid to rest. It was always a pleasure to be in his company and he will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. "We Will Remember Him"

La Fontaine Ronald Victor * † 14 Nov 2010;   Roy served as a soldier with the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps and took his release from the army in the summer of 1972. He and his wife Marleis their two children, son Mark and daughter Sandra resided in Wickede (Ruhr), Germany. Roy and his wife owned and operated a successful Gasthaus business in Wickede. He joined the Royal Canadian Legion when Branch 004 did a Remembrance Service in Werl. Roy died on 14 November 2010 at the age of 66 following a lengthy illness.  "We will remember him".
